Our Social Media Specialist Kassie is having a great time setting up and training with Trevarrow and Nyberg’s Ace.

It’s great to see the enthusiasm of the owners and the creativity of their facebook posts. They realized that facebook is an important part of their business and are beginning to dive into it. Customers can tell wether that the updates are coming from you and are more likely to act on the offer or even use your page to ask for advice.

Nyberg's Ace

Kassie has created custom welcome pages on facebook for Trevarrow and Nyberg’s Ace. When a person is not a fan they are brought to this page, Trevarrow’s is a picture of their store and some information. Nyberg’s Ace has pictures of their 4 stores and links to their maps on the landing page. When someone is already a fan they go straight to the wall and can see what’s going on.

It’s important that the page is really a reflection of the store and custom pages are a perfect solution to that!

Ace Hardware of Rome launches new website!

Newly launched Rome Ace Hardware web site!

Ace Hardware of Rome launched their new website this week. The site’s primary goal is to feature the specialty department that make their store a unique shopping experience. Steve and Kristin Grunder, second generation owners, are continually adding and expanding departments that reflect where the market is growing and going! As you can see from the site, they feature Sthil, new Ace Battery Place and the always successful, Benjamin Moore Paints. Also note the advertisement for their growing pet department. They are asking customers to submit pictures of their pets for display on the web site! Great idea!

Greene’s Ace Homecenter, Whitney Point, NY Launches New Web Site

Greene's Ace Homecenter, Whitney Point, NY

Greene’s Ace Homecenter owners Doug Greene and Jarrett Green worked with the Footsteps team to launch their new web site over the busy holiday season.  The results seem to be worth it!  The site went live in time to promote this weekend’s National Promotion, 20% Off Bag Sale.  The Greene’s used the site to feature their Lumber and Building Materials business by adding custom navigation to the home page and three areas with extended information on Lumber, Masonry and Millwork.  Footsteps will be sending out an announcement email with offer to the Rewards list this week.  We then followup with a “Special Promotion” to the e-Coupon Club to welcome them to special offers, promotions that will come in the future.

Colorado Springs Hardware Retailer: Extreme Customer Service!

http://i.bnet.com/blogs/kirby-kuklenski_cropped230.jpg?tag=content;drawer-containerKirby Kuklenski, co-owner Uintah Ace Hardware, Colorado Springs, CO

My brother Nick and I made an unusual decision — at least, unusual in this day-and-age. We wanted to run an old-fashioned business in an old-fashioned way. Despite the fact that neither of us had any retail experience, we opened our own Ace Hardware franchise in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2007.

Since then, we’ve learned that obsessing about margins and man hours isn’t the only way to make it in business today. By following the simple rule of “do almost anything for the customer and the numbers will sort themselves out” we found a business model that has allowed us to thrive, even during the recession. We’re now about to open our third store, while the big boys are dropping like flies.  See full article……

Facebook Marketing Now Offered by FootSteps!

Kassie Thompson- Social Media Consultant

Hi, my name is Kassie Thompson and FootSteps has brought me in to help their clients with their Social Media plans. I am currently the Marketing Director for 4 Ace Hardware stores in Colorado. I have had great success marketing the stores on facebook and I want to share my knowledge with the group.

With 550 million users around the world, and counting, Facebook is one of today’s leading destinations influencing online identity, entertainment, and content distribution. It’s no longer about engaging with your friends anymore it’s about communicating with your customers, prospects, and vendors. If you don’t have a Facebook page for your business, now is the time to get started and discover what Facebook can do for your business. It’s a cost effective way to build your brand, communicate with  your customers, and gain credibility as an expert in your field.

6 Most Important Things for Businesses to know about Facebook:
1. Create a facebook page.
Your facebook page should be the hub of your facebook marketing presence. With a facebook page, users become “fans” of your store.  When that happens your name and logo will appear on their profile page and then it shows up in their friends newsfeeds. This is how your page grows virally. Facebook pages also rank very highly in google search results boosting your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) ranking.

2. Create Targeted Pay-Per-Click ads.
Facebooks social ads platform make it easy to target gender, age and geographic audience. This fuels the flames of a “natural” viral growth. You can easily create ads, set a daily budget and review your stats to see your progress.

3. Create Facebook events for promotions.
Create regular facebook events for promotions you are running. For example: Create an event for the National Bag sale and invite all your facebook fans a week prior.

4. Create facebook only deals and contests.
People love fun ways of engaging and feeling like they are a part of your business. I created a contest on facebook this week where I took a picture of a huge heart made out of Hershey Kisses and uploaded it to our pages and had the fans guess how many kisses there were. The closest guess will get a $50 gift certificate and will be announced on Valentine’s Day.

5. Publish fresh photos, videos, and updates to your facebook page.
Facebook pages are not “set it and forget it”. They require regular updates with new content that is authentic and community generated- by you and your staff, the experts! It is important to upload interesting content and not just promotions. Be in tune with the weather, holidays, and current local events and share your knowledge with your fans.

6. Talk to your Customers.
Facebook is made up of people, and people want to talk to you. If you don’t enter the conversation, they invite you to, they will quickly stop paying attention to you. When you start your facebook presence you will need someone “to man the wheel” by allocating staff to participate in questions, comments or concerns from your fans. When customers discover there are real people there, their appreciation for you will grow- as will their willingness to let others know that you are the go to person for advice.

Keep in mind that facebook marketing is powerful and Social Media should become part of your store’s marketing strategy. Participating in the facebook eco-system requires consistent participation and willingness to engage your customers. There’s a good chance that you will find it more rewarding that you think.
